Walt Disney World Magic Kingdom 1972 Vintage Disney Board Game
Today on Vintage Disney games We are turning back the clock to 1972 with a trip to Walt Disney World Magic Kingdom 1972 Vintage Disney Board Game
Let's take a quick trip back in time to learn more about the Florida project from our host Walt Disney.
The Magic Kingdom park aka Walt Disney World opened on October 1st 1971 and this fun board game is a way to take the memories and fun home with you.
The park comes to life as you build the railroad station entrance, visit the haunted house, ride the teacups till you puke, and of course ride the iconic Mark 4 monorail!
the object of this game is, well like real life goal of every parent, which is to go to the park, ride everything as fast as you can, without spending too much money on ice cream , then be the first ones out of the park while having a great time with the family.
We were always at the park from rope drop until final firework pop and our kids eyes rolled to the back of their heads asleep watching the fireworks.
This game does a good job of capturing a glimpse of that experience as you begin your adventure at the Main Street entrance under the railroad station and travel down Main Street USA
the game begins after you pick your favorite Disney character from Mickey, Mini, Donald, Daisy, Pluto or Goofy.
you then take a stack of tickets and shuffle them face down after you remove the three monorail tickets.
1 fun feature of this game is they put 4 monorail stations around the edge of the park. which is a great idea by the way! I wish they had that in real life so you would have another way to quickly get from one side of the park to the other since they took down one of my favorite rides as a kid the sky cars!
A player then draws the top “ticket” which another fun fact- is Walt Disney World used ticket books like Disneyland until the mid 1980s so you could only ride if you had a ticket and the best rides were E ticket rides and of course the most expensive!
So once you have your ticket telling you where to go you spin to move your character towards your next adventure.
let's hear from Walt’s on the fun places you will visit on your cardboard trip to the Magic Kingdom
Now that you have seen all the fun places we're going to go. you don't visit those in order because your cards have been shuffled, so you bounce around the park on each turn you draw a new card.
sometimes you run into other players and land on the same space. when that happens you get to move them to any of the three refreshment areas around the park to knock them off their quest for wherever they were headed.
Oh and this game has something every retro Disney World Fan loves which is the Orange bird refreshment stand! The Orange bird character was sponsored by the Florida Citrus commission for 3 million dollars and they had an orange juice stand next to an attraction called the tropical serenade which we all know as the tiki room. for an extra $135,000 they were allowed to put another juice bar in Fantasyland.
And Now Our dead last stop on this game is the “haunted house”??. I guess Milton Bradley didn't get the memo that it was a haunted mansion because we all know Disney is too good to haunt just any small house.
as you are traveling across the Magic Kingdom if you land on a red spot, you have to take the blue “haunted disc” and drop it through the roof. the spot that is nearest to where the disk “dies” is where you have to move your character to start your next turn from there.
the first person to spend all their tickets and ride all the great rides from 1972 Walt Disney World win's the game!
This game is a lot of fun with all the different interactive features making your magical journey come to life at home. Giant Fireworks sold separately!
